In Ypsilanti’s historic Depot Town the Dreamland Theater will be hosting an opening reception on January 11th from 7 until 10 pm for What: Two Man Show, an exhibition of current work from two of the area’s emerging local artists. The show will run from the 11th until the 31st and will consist of photographs by Adam Gabriel Winnie and screen-prints by Christopher Pierce.Resisting the temptation of technological advancements, these two artists have developed their work through more of a physical process rather than by utilizing the available modern techniques. Adams black and white photographs represent an attempt to visually transmogrify man into nature. In a time when he feels that the general public is becoming disassociated with their surroundings his portraits show the result of his belief that in the end, every one and everything is inevitably the same. In contrast, Christopher explores the psychological result of depicting one’s self onto a two-dimensional space. He uses a limited color scheme in his photographic screen-prints, continuously evolving his relationship with the medium while looking for opportunities to leave things to chance. Adam and Christopher share a similar value for process, and although each has his own specific focus, neither artist limits himself with this focus during this presentation.
